Abstract:
Hinokitiol (β-thujaplicin) is a tropolone-related compound that is present in the heartwood of several Cupressaceae trees.
It was found that hinokitiol and tropolone greatly inhibited formation of reddish colouration of injured scales of Hippeastrum bulbs.
Hinokitiol and tropolone applied preventively substantially inhibited the growth of Phoma narcissi on excised scales and leaves of Hippeastrum. The possible mechanism of inhibitory action of tropolone and hinokitiol on reddish colouration of injured scales of Hippeastrum and on the disease symptoms induced by Phoma narcissi on excised scales and leaves is discussed.
