Abstract:
There are numerous production, harvest and postharvest factors that influence the vase life of ferns. These include fern genetics, frond and plant age and maturity, stomatal density, production shade levels and competition with other plants, seasonal effects, irrigation, fertilization, preharvest pesticide and other sprays, time of harvesting, postharvest dips, sprays, pulses, conditioning and holding treatments, storage conditions and other factors. There are great voids in the knowledgebase regarding fern vase life characteristics and their manipulation.
