Abstract:
The ‘Uva di Troia’ grapevine is grown in the provinces of Bari and Foggia, in Southern Italy. The aim of this study was to compare the ampelographic and oenological characteristics of two clones (17 and 18) grafted on two rootstocks (140/R and 157/11). The experimental design was three randomized bloks with plots of four vinestoks each. At harvest time, the following characteristics were observed: ampelographic characteristics of cluster and berry; must composition. After six months of elaboration, the characteristics of the wine were also measured. The parameters were determined according to official analysis methods of Italian Ministry of Agriculture. Statistical differences were observed between clones and between rootstocks. The best clone for ampelographic characteristics was the clone 18, that showed high value in weight of cluster and of berry and low value in seeds number per grape. The best clone for enological characteristics was the clone 17, that showed high value in acidity, excellent value in pH, right content in sugars and a moderately content of polyphenols and anthocyanins, so to obtain a wine of quality.
