Abstract:
The present study is a comparative evaluation of eight ‘Sangiovese’ biotypes. The research took place in the experimental field in the Chianti Classico DOCG territory. Ampelographic, vegetative and productive aspects were investigated, to evaluate the technological response of the fruit in terms of high quality wine productions. Differences in budbreak time, leaf biomass and pruning weight were detected. All this indicates some differences among the genotypes, especially regarding vine vigour, as we can appreciate from the production of winter pruning. In regard to the technological aspects analyses of acidity and sugar in the must at harvest time, and anthocyanins level were also performed. Some interesting differences has been highlighted, making some biotypes valuable from an enological point of view, in addition to its positive vegetative aspects. In some cases, the limited acidity in its grapes can be a problem in quality of the wine on long term ageing. A combined PCA statistic investigation that considered both agronomical and productive behaviours allowed to analyze the global differences or similarities among biotypes.
