INVOLVEMENT OF GIBBERELLINS IN DEVELOPMENT AND SENESCENCE OF ROSE FLOWERS

Abstract:
It has been found that development and longevity of certain rose cultivars were improved and petals senescence was postponed following post-harvest treatment of the flowers with GA3 (Table 1) (Goszczynska et al., 1990). One of the main findings was a significant decrease in leakage of electrolytes from GA3 treated petals, although several other rose cultivars were insensitive to GA3 (Goszczynska et al., 1990; Sabehat and Zieslin, 1994). High sensitivity of cv. Mercedes flowers to GA3 treatments and complete insensitivity of cv. Madelon flowers (Shaul et al., 1995) stimulated investigation of GA3 effects in petals of these two cultivars. Some of the results are described in the present report...
