MICROPROPAGATION OF ROSA × HYBRIDA CV. 'VEGAS' VIA AXILLARY BUDS

Authors:   A. Drefahl, M.G. Quoirin, F. Lorena Cuquel
Keywords:   floriculture, cut flower, meristem, rose, tissue culture
Abstract:
The world's leading cut flower is rose. Growers propagate roses by cutting or grafting. All these methods are efficient but spread diseases. Micropropagation is a tool that allows solving this problem. In this study culture medias were tested in order to establish, multiply and root Rosa × hybrida cv. ‘Vegas’ in vitro via axillary buds. The best results for micropropagation were obtained with buds containing 5 to 7 primordia developed in MS (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) culture media supplemented with 0.5 mg.L-1 BAP + 0.25 mg.L-1 GA3 + 0.01 mg.L-1 IAA, multiplied in MS media supplemented with 1.0 mg.L-1 BAP + 0.1 mg.L-1 GA3 and rooted in ½MS without growth regulators.
