Abstract:
Chamomile is a well-known and widely used medicinal plant for various gastro-intestinal disorders. Extracts of Chamomillae flos are used in cosmetics for anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. The research was focused on the study of selected medicinal tea samples that are found in pharmacies. A number of qualitative and quantitative methods were used in order to establish the similarity between the samples. An assessment of the producers’ indication regarding the preparation method was conducted on the most used plant material. The results revealed the presence of major impurities for the majority of the medicinal teas. The qualitative analysis showed a similar compounds spectra, whereas the quantitative study indicates significant differences between the chamomile samples. There are no similarities concerning the preparation methods or recommended dosage, thus most of the samples do not correspond to the Pharmacopoeial standards for a medicinal plant.
