EFFECT OF BIOFERTILIZATION (CHICKEN AND PIGEON MANURES) ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF POTATO UNDER CENTRAL SAUDI ARABIA CONDITIONS

Authors:   A.M. Al-Moshileh, M.I. Motawei

Abstract:
Two field experiments were carried out during 2000/01 and 2001/02 seasons at the Experimental Farm of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, in Al-Qassim area to examine the vegetable and reproductive responses of potato to biofertilization with chicken and pigeon manures at rates of 0, 4.0, 8.0, and 12.0 t/ha. The results obtained indicated that leaf area, number of tubers, and marketable yield per plant were promoted by the rate of chicken manure. The point of profitable marketable yield corresponded to the chicken manorial rate of 8.0 t/ha. In contrast, there was insignificant effect of pigeon manure on marketable yield of potato. In spite of the insignificant differences among the pigeon manure rates, the application of pigeon manure at the rate of 8.0 t/ha gave the highest marketable and unmarketable yield of potato. The lowest yield was obtained when adding 12.0 t/ha of pigeon manure.
