ISHS Acta Horticulturae 74: Symposium on Plum Genetics, Breeding and Pomology

SELECTION OF PLUM ROOTSTOCKS

Authors:   N. Kapetanovic, V. Prica
Abstract:
The growth of the trees of plum cultivars Ruth Gerstetter, California Blue and Stanley in the 6th year, on seedling root-stocks local plums B, S-1 and S-2 was poorer than on standard rootstock Myrobolan. On plum rootstock R the growth of Stanley was poorer and that of Ruth Gerstetter and California Blue more vigourous than on Myrobolan. The beginning of the fruit bearing was registered in the 4th year. The greatest number of fruits per tree was in Ruth Gerstettar and Stanley on rootstock R and in California blue on rootstock S-1.

During the clone selection of local plums rootstocks the maiden bushes of stooled seedlings rooted in average with 45.7 to 87. 3% and the layers of selected slones with 83. 7 to 100 %.
