Abstract:
An experiment was conducted to evaluate guava cultivars for growth and fruit characters at Kittur Rani Channama College of Horticulture during 2001-02 and 2002-03. The results revealed that there was significant difference among the different cultivars of guava with respect to growth except number of primary branches and fruit characters. The cv. Chittadhar recorded significantly maximum plant height (457.67 and 475.33 cm) during 2001-02 and 2002-03, while plant girth was highest (11.10 and 13.25 cm) in cv. Seedless. The cv. SR-2 recorded higher number of fruits (359.30 and 364.33) during 2001-02 and 2002-03 and total fruit weight (42.00 kg and 39.75 kg plant-1). The maximum average fruit weight (153.30 g and 159.33 g) was found in cv. Sardar during the evaluated years. However, TSS was more in cvs GR-1 and Chittidhar (11.50 °B and 11.60 °B).
