Abstract:
Though guava is an introduced crop in India, considerable genetic diversity is available in Indo-Gangatic plains, however, significant loss in diversity is taking place due to guava wilt and several other factors related with population pressure. This paper deals with GIS based mapping of diversity in the important pockets of guava growing districts of Uttar Pradesh. A significant diversity was observed for different character viz. fruit shape and size, surface smoothness, peel and pulp colour, seed content, seed colour and its hardiness. Allahabad and Kaushambhi districts of Uttar Pradesh were found to be significantly rich diversity centers among the guava growing belts surveyed. Evaluation results of diversity during survey matched with the results inferred from probability layer generated by GIS.
