Abstract:
Plums were one of the main fruit crops in Slovenia up to the middle of the XIXth century; after that, they remained important market goods for export.
The plum production was reduced in the middle of the XXth century.
In the Brkini region, many selections of the local cultivar ‘Domača češplja’ have been established and today they present a part of the genetic plum germplasm in Slovenia.
In the research, ten selections of cultivar ‘Domača češplja’ (‘P-1’, ‘P-2’, ‘P-3’, ‘B-4’, ‘R-8’, ‘SA-10’, ‘RB-11’, ‘SG-9’, ‘Č-5’ and ‘M-7’) were evaluated for phenological characteristics (flowering and ripening time) and pomological characteristics (fruit weight, fruit dimensions, stone dimensions, fruit firmness and soluble solids content). Sugars, sorbitol and non-volatile acids were analysed with High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The fruits of the tested selections were evaluated for some sensory characteristics (aroma, eating quality, juiciness) by panelists.
Differences exist in the fruit colour, taste and aroma (flavour), fruit weight, fruit dimensions and soluble solids content.
Variations in the contents of individual sugars and acids were also evident.
