Abstract:
The genetic diversity of 108 accessions including Prunus salicina, P. simonii, P. ussuriensis, P. domestica, P. cerasifera, P. nigra, P. spinosa, P. armeniaca and P. tomentosa, among which 7 accessions of wild European plum are from the Tianshan Germplasm Repository for Wild Plants in Xinjiang and all others from the National Germplasm Repository for Plums and Apricots in Liaoning, were examined with Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) marker.
Of the 92 random 10-mer primers tested, 47 primers generated robust, easily interpretable and polymorphic amplification products.
Cluster analysis using the unweighted paired group method of arithmetic means (UPGMA) showed four main clusters such as plum × apricot, Chinese plum, European plum, and other species groups.
Canadian plum (P. nigra) and Wanhei (a European plum cultivar whose true name is unknown) are distinct from other plum samples.
