Abstract:
Research carried out at the Fruit Research-Development Station Constanta, Romania and the Fruitculture Research Institute Cegléd, Hungary, studied the behaviour of 9 rootstocks: 5 from Constanta (Prunus armeniaca) and 4 from Cegléd (Prunus armeniaca and Prunus cerasifera) for seed production and graft compatibility.
Germination tests were undertaken at both stations but seedling production and the behaviour of rootstocks in the nursery were only evaluated in Romania.
Results of these investigations indicate that the Romanian and Hungarian rootstocks are suitable for the apricot cultivars tested.
The rootstocks proved suitable as seed-trees because they produced small seeds with adequate seed germination and seedling growth.
The rootstocks grew well and gave good yield of standard grafted trees.
Scion/rootstock compatibility was satisfactory with no external deformations.
