Abstract:
The Mediterranean region of Turkey has great ecological advantages to obtain an early artichoke production.
In this study, the main aim was to get early yield as well as quality.
A three year old plantation established with Sakız cultivar was used as plant material.
Plants, irrigated at the first week of September 2004 to awakening, were subject to the following treatments; 1) 25 ppm GA3 5 weeks after awakening irrigation followed by another 25 ppm two weeks after the first one, 2) Mulching with black plastic (0.02 µm), 3) Agryl for covering plants, 4) Mulching + Agryl, 5) Control.
According to the results obtained from the present study, Mulch+Agryl treatment gave the earliest yield compared to the other treatments.
