ISHS Acta Horticulturae 73: I International Symposium on Spices and Medicinal plants

VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION AND VARIABILITY OF MATRICARIA CHAMOMILLA L.

Author:   F.-J. Schröder
Abstract:
Chamomile cultivated under short daylength and low temperatures develops short and leafy shoots. Compared with other parts of the plant these shoots are qualified best for propagation by cuttings. They take strong roots and their flower yield is rather high.

The value of individuals from three various populations, with regard to the essential oil production, was estimated from the essential oil contents of their vegetative progeny. There were great differences between clones of one and the same population. The populations obviously differed in the variability of drug yield and essential oil contents.
