Abstract:
The report refers to the first results obtained from large scale pilot cultivation of the Didrovaltratum variety of Valeriana wallichii in the Federal Republic of Germany.
These experiments have been performed mainly in nothern German areas, with a view to elaborating adequate and up-to-date cultivating techniques including production and storage of seeds, raise and cultivation as well as harvesting and further treatment of the roots.
From the experience obtained so far it emerges that cultivation of Valeriana wallichii will definitely be possible in our climate conditions, provided certain raising and cultivating methods be observed.
Meanwhile, through cross combination and selection, an improved plant stock has been made available to growers that presents better qualities of resistance against disease and frost.
The most frequently recurring morphological type of the plants is briefly described in the report.
