Abstract:
The large gentian Gentiana lutea L. is a species that grows spontaneously in all medium altitude meadows in the French mountains.
Development of intensified methods of meadow husbandry during recent years have reduced the areas where it grows naturally.
Furthermore, lack of labour for picking has increased the difficulties in obtaining supplies.
And so, the National Institute of Agricultural Research and the Institute of Applied Research on Beverages have been considering rational cultivation of this plant since 1970.
