MORPHOLOGICAL AND ESSENTIAL-OIL PRODUCTION PHENOMENA IN CHAMOMILE GROWING IN PHYTOTRON

Authors:   G. Verzár-Petri, G. Marczal, É. Lemberkovics, E. Rajki
Abstract:
Matricaria chamomilla L.is one of the most current medicinal plants in Hungary. The wild and cultivated variants differ not only in their morphological characteristics but also in their substantial conditions, we may thus distinguish several types by examining the production and composition of essential oils (Verzár-Petri et al 1974).

During long observation we have found characteristic and constant composition of essential oil in the "sort" from Daránypuszta which was first cultivated, now grows wild in this area. Its morphological phenomena are also balanced. We have chosen this plant material for our investigations in phytotron.

Our investigations were aimed at comparing different phytotron-parameters to evaluate the best conditions for growth and development phenomena of the plant as well as for its essential oil production. The different conditions gave us a good possibility to evaluate natural environmental-like effects on the morphology and oil biosynthesis of the plant.
