Abstract:
Studies were conducted at the Institute for Plant Genetic Resources (IPGR), Sadovo, Bulgaria, to determine the parameters and the range of variation in 10 important morphological traits of plant and fruit in two groups (introduced and local) of eggplant accessions.
The values and the variation limits of 4 traits, characterizing the biological peculiarities of the species, were determined.
To increase selection effectiveness, linear correlations among 17 main traits of breeding importance, as well as between the productivity and the elements that determined it, were revealed.
A multiple two-step correlation analysis was applied to characterize the collection.
Regression equations and multiple correlation coefficients were developed.
Based on the accumulated, analyzed and classified information, a mathematical model of eggplant genetic behavior was created.
This enabled impartial assessment of the collection and speeding up selection at breeding.
