Author:   L. Krasteva
Keywords:   local genetic resources, collecting missions, collection, evaluation, tomatoes, green beans, watermelons, melons
Abstract:
The local horticultural cultivars and populations are valuable genetic resources that should be preserved. The objective of this study was to summarize the information available for the germplasm of local accessions collected from their typical regions of growing. In the period 1978-1998, collecting missions were undertaken resulting in a collection of 2057 accessions and bases comprising important phenological, morphological and economic traits, allowing their rational use in breeding and practice. The parameters and the limits of variation of some important morphological traits and biological peculiarities of vegetable crops were determined. The available local germplasm was inventoried and indexed.
