Abstract:
Recent studies by a number of authors have suggested that methanol could be used in agriculture as a growth enhancer and in some cases could substitute supplemental irrigation of plants.
This study proved that supplemental irrigation and application of 30% methanol significantly increased small bean and sugar beet yields.
It was also found that both treatments stimulated physiological processes in the tested plants, particularly the intensity of photosynthesis and transpiration.
On basis of our study it can be suggested that 30% methanol solution applied 3 times as spray on leaves may be used by some plants as a substitute of supplemental irrigation particularly in arid or semiarid zone.
