YIELDS OF POTATOES GROWN ON LIGHT SOILS UNDER IRRIGATION AND NITROGEN

Authors:   C. Rzekanowski, S. Rolbiecki, R. Rolbiecki
Keywords:   potato, sprinkler irrigation, nitrogen fertilization, light soil
Abstract:
This paper is based on results obtained from investigations conducted in the years 2001-2003 at Kruszyn Krajeński near Bydgoszcz. A field experiment on the influence of irrigation and nitrogen fertilization on yields of potatoes was established using the split-plot method, in a dependent system with two variable factors and three replications on sandy soils. Irrigation significantly increased yields. Irrigation significantly changed the yield structure. This treatment increased from 2 to 4 times the percentage of tubers characterized by diameter 4-6 cm and that of over 6 cm. Both factors of the experiment influenced the yields of dry matter, starch, and sugars in a different way.
