THE EFFECTS OF SOWING DATES ON SEED YIELD AND QUALITY OF RED PODDED BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS L.) CULTIVARS

Abstract:
The effect of different sowing times on seed yield and quality of red podded bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars were studied under Samsun ecological conditions. In field experiments (2 years) effects of three different sowing times in spring on seed yields and qualities (100 grain weights, seed dimensions (length, width, and thickness), germination speeds and germination rates, emergence rates) were investigated. It was determined that there were negative significant relationships between the seed lengths and sowing times in cultivars (R= -0.878). It was stated that when sowing time was delayed, some declines in seed widths and thickness occurred with variable ratios regarding cultivars. At the end of this research, it was suggested that sowing time should be between May 1st and 15th for red podded bean with respect to seed production under Samsun ecological conditions.
