Abstract:
A study was conducted to identify and to collect pistachio male trees on the non-grafted trees of Qazvin and Buin-Zahra orchards, in order to select and introduce the most suitable pollinators form the point of view of flowering period and inflorescence occurrence date. Studied trees were labeled. Based on their location with two general MQ (male-Qazvin) and MB (male-buinzahra) codes and their geographical location were recorded. Results showed significant variation among stands’ flowering date and period, and among percent of pollen germination. Flowering mostly occurred on April 2- April 11 (for 9- 14 days) in Qazvin, and March 31- April 12 (for 7-11 days) in Buin-Zahra. Pollen germination was 65-96 and 64-95 % for Qazvin and Buin- Zahra trees, respectively. Among the genotypes, the longest flowering period was recorded as 14 days in two genotypes called “MQ14, MQ 19” from the Qazvin area. The flowering of genotype “MB6” (from Buin Zahra) lasted 12 days. The shortest period was 8 days in Qazvin area in genotype “MQ18” and 7 days in Qazvin area in genotype “MB11”.
