ISHS Acta Horticulturae 726: IV International Symposium on Pistachios and Almonds

SOME POMOLOGICAL FRUIT TRAITS AND YIELD OF PISTACIA VERA GROWN UNDER IRRIGATED AND UNIRRIGATED CONDITIONS

Authors:   B.E. Ak, N. Agackesen
Keywords:   Pistachio, yield, irrigation, quality.
Abstract:
Pistachio has been grown under dry conditions for the centuries. After establishing new damps in the GAP region, not only annuals but also perennials have begun to be irrigated. It is well known that irrigation of pistachio changes quality or amount of the yield. In this study, the effects of irrigation on yield and quality of Pistacia vera cv. Kirmizi grown under dry or irrigated conditions were determined. When the average yield of irrigated pistachio trees was 24.09 kg, the average yield of pistachio trees grown under dry soil conditions was found 13.85 kg. Similarly, irrigation has affected splitting rate (57.98 %) of pistachio crop positively, compared to splitting rate (37.09 %) of pistachios grown under dry soil conditions. Moreover, the fruit dimensions and shelling percentage were affected by irrigation.
