MOLECULAR BIOLOGY APPROACH FOR IMPROVING CHRYSANTHEMUM RESISTANCE TO VIRUS B

Abstract:
Chrysanthemum virus B (CVB) is an aphid-transmitted member of the carlavirus group, family Flexiviridae, occurring worldwide in cultivated varieties of chrysanthemum. The nucleotide sequence of the open reading frame 5 encoding the CVB coat protein was inserted in varied orientation into expression vectors for genetic engineering to improve chrysanthemum resistance to CVB infection. We obtained 12 transgenic chrysanthemum lines with antisense cDNA sequence, 5 lines with sense cDNA sequence, and 1 line with double sense cDNA sequence. The presence of the CVB coat protein gene in the plants was proved by PCR.
