Abstract:
The high risk of economic losses, as a result of virus diseases transmitted by insects, has forced farmers to adopt the use of insect-proof meshes in the natural ventilation entrances.
This practice however, has given place to a new problem: a decrease of the ventilation rate.
This decrement affects the yield and quality of the crops.
The solution consisted in the installation of some climatic control systems.
However, it is considered that the introduction of these systems has been made without the detailed scientific knowledge of its implication in the microclimate inside the greenhouse.
The present investigation was made to evaluate the microclimatic condition inside this type of greenhouse.
Two greenhouses of the Almería type on its sub-types “raspa y amagado” and “asymmetric”, was selected.
In order to evaluate these greenhouses, three sections were selected giving rise to the following sections: TN: North section; TM: Center of the greenhouse and TS: South section.
Sensors were placed at two different heights in order to measure the microclimate variables.
The analysis was made by averaging every hour, and later a t-student test was run for hour and section.
The results of these studies indicated that the north section gave a lower temperature than the rest of the sections in all the months and crops studied, except in the season spring–summer 2003. The south section of the greenhouse of “raspa y amagado” was the one with higher temperature, both in the autumn-winter season as well as in the spring summer.
In the case of the greenhouse Almería subtype “asymmetric”, it was found that the section with the greatest temperature corresponded to the center of the greenhouse in the season fall-winter 2002. These results will be of great help at the time of designing the climatic control systems inside this type of greenhouses.
