Abstract:
The mode of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) inheritance was studied in Leucadendron (Proteaceae) using polymerase chain reaction amplification of chloroplast DNA followed by restriction fragment length analysis of the amplified products (PCR-RFLP). It was found that by testing 100 progeny from five interspecific crosses, the inheritance of cpDNA in Leucadendron was predominantly maternal.
PCR-RFLP also detected cpDNA variation in 21 Leucadendron species.
Based on the cpDNA variation detected, sixteen haplotypes were recognized among the 21 Leucadendron species studied.
