Abstract:
Colletotrichum species cause serious diseases such as anthracnose, stem cankers, leaf necrosis, damping-off and cutting dieback of Proteaceae worldwide.
Disease occurrence in plantations tends to be sporadic and is dependent upon climatic conditions.
Internationally, four Colletotrichum species are associated with diseased Proteaceae viz.
C. acutatum, C. boninense, C. crassipes and C. gloeosporioides. In this study South African isolates of these species were tested for pathogenicity and the histology of two C. acutatum isolates were studied by means of light and scanning electron microscopy.
