Abstract:
During the 2002-2003 growing season, a field experiment was conducted at the Experiment Station of the Universidad de Concepcion in Chillan, Chile (360 34' latitude south) in order to determine the effect of CPPU (N-(2-cloro-4-pyridyl)-N'-phenylurea) on fruit set, fruit size and delay in fruit ripening of two highbush blueberries, 'Elliott' and 'Lateblue'. The CPPU concentration used was 10 mg/L applied at 10 to 15 days after 50% bloom.
The results show that there was an increase in berry size and a slight delay in fruit ripening in CPPU treated 'Elliott', compared to non treated plants.
However, the same effect was not observed in 'Lateblue' highbush blueberry.
