Abstract:
In this research we present information on biological resources and yield of wild blueberries Vaccinium myrtillus L., Vaccinium uliginosum L. The most significant resources of wild blueberries (V. myrtillus L.) in Ukraine are located in the Polissya area (Zhitomyr, Rivno and Volyn’ regions) and in the Carpathian region (Zakarpatskaya, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions). The yield of wild blueberries is generally low. Methods to increase yields of wild blueberries are presented in the research. We also indicate the value of berry plans in preservation of biodiversity of forests. In Ukraine, gardeners and scientists show much interest in highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.). Highbush blueberries were studied in the Polissya region of Ukraine on acid soils and peatlands after peat extraction. Findings on cultivation of highbush blueberries on plantations are presented.
