Abstract:
The evaluation of biological indicators of soil health, foliage and fruit characteristics in ‘Suncrest’ peach orchards conducted under Integrated Crop Management (ICM) and Organic Crop Management (OCM) was carried out. Microbial biomass, respiration, quotients (microbial-C/total-C), SIR (Substrate Induced Respiration), N mineralization, organic-C determination and dehydrogenase enzyme activity were measured. Foliage and fruits were collected to evaluate leaf area, fresh and dry matter, specific fresh matter, specific dry matter and characteristics of fruit quality. The biological indicators of soil health changed more in ICM than in the OCM orchard and amino acid content was higher in fruits from the ICM than from the OCM orchard. The fruit quality and dry matter didn’t show differences. Fruits from the OCM orchard were sweeter than from the ICM orchard.
