Abstract:
In Sicily, the peach industry, based on local germplasm, seedling propagated has been documented since the XIII century.
In 1998, in order to study the horticultural traits of this germplasm, an ex situ collection of twenty-two genotypes found all around the island has been set up.
To check the sanitary status and fit the European Union (EU) rules for plant material certification, a preliminary analysis for PPV, PDV, PNRSV, ACLSV, ApMV and PLMVd has been carried out.
From a horticultural point of view, the collected genotypes ripe from July (‘Red Heaven’ time) up to the end of October.
Most of them are white-fleshed, clingstone, and with high soluble solids content.
Fifty percent of the accessions were pathogen free.
