EFFECT OF MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE BY PVC AND LLDPE FILM ON QUALITY OF LONGAN FRUITS (DIMOCARPUS LONGAN LOUR) CV. DAW´

Authors:   P. Seubrach, S. Photchanachai, V. Srilaong, S. Kanlayanarat
Keywords:   longan, PVC, LLDPE, MAP
Abstract:
Longan fruits cv. ‘Daw’ were stored in transparent polystyrene boxes covered with polyvinyl (PVC) film (15 µm thickness) or linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) film (10, 15 and 20 µm thickness) at 4°C and 90-95%RH. All of the modified atmosphere conditions significantly reduced the weight loss and extended the shelf-life of longan fruits to 20 days compared to the fruits stored in the ambient air (16 days). The LLDPE film could slightly delay weight loss of the fruits than the PVC film. The colour of the longan peel gradually decreased in all packages but the PVC film packaging provided the best appearance of the longan and achieved better overall customers’ acceptance during storage.
