FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF GREENHOUSE VEGETABLE SPECIALIZED PROJECTS IN SAUDI ARABIA

Author:   A.M. Al-Abdulkader
Keywords:   plastic tunnel, plastic cool tunnel, fiberglass cool tunnel, cash flow, incremental cost, incremental benefit, sensitivity analysis
Abstract:
Greenhouse technology is an innovative farming system used in agriculture worldwide to overcome the adverse environmental conditions facing the process of producing quality and high value crops, required to meet the increasing local demands or food products. Vast areas of Saudi Arabia are influenced by tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate climates, which adversely affect the process of producing high quality crops. Thus, the adoption of greenhouse farming technology has been promoted in Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to discuss the following issues: the financial analysis of producing greenhouse-grown vegetables, the proper investments ranking among greenhouse-grown vegetable projects using different greenhouse structures; and the sensitivity analysis. These issues would be tackled thoroughly for eight greenhouse-grown vegetable crops by using three different tunnel structures.
