Abstract:
The economically most important arthropods are spider mites, the Tortricids Epichoristodes acerbella MALK. newly imported, and Cacaecimorpha pronubana HB, Aphids, Thrips, the leaf-miner Pseudonapomyza dianthicola VENT and the seed maggot Phorbia platura MEIG.
The problems brought up by these pests are defined and commented.
The systematic and intensive chemical treatments represent different inconvenients: destruction of natural enemies, acquisition of resistance by the pests and sometimes favourable action upon the outbreaks.
Besides they involve riks of phytotoxicity, of spots on plants and pollution of the environment.
French research is directed to integrated control.
A first experimentation of rational chemical control has been realised in a glass-house for 23 months.
Grounded on periodical checking, it allowed to assure a good sanitary protection with a limited number of treatments.
This method, which needs to be confirmed and defined, would allow for a return to a better natural balance and the further utilization of methods of biological control, especially of spider mites.
