Abstract:
Several accessions of Fragaria chiloensis were used for cross breeding with Fragaria × ananassa 'Elsanta', 'Honeoye' and 'Surecrop'. Although a progeny of cross breeding with F. chiloensis, 'Culture', showed susceptibility to Verticillium dahliae Kleb. under field conditions of natural infection, cross breeding with specific accessions of F. chiloensis subsp. lucida (E. Vilmorin ex Gay) Staudt and F. chiloensis subsp. pacifica Staudt resulted in selections with exceptional characteristics of plant health in the field, in greenhouse resistance evaluation and for fruit characteristics such as flavour.
