MAIN STRAWBERRY DISEASES IN IRAPUATO, GUANAJUATO AND ZAMORA, MICHOACAN, MEXICO

Authors:   J. Narro-Sanchez, P.A. Davalos-Gonzalez, R. Velasquez-Valle, J. Castro-Franco
Keywords:   Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. fragariae, Botrytis, Colletotrichum and Phytophthora
Abstract:
In Mexico, the annual strawberry production of 110,147 ton is produced mainly in the states of Michoacan, Baja California and Guanajuato. Strawberry growers are economically poor people, market prices for fruit are low, and little tech-nology has been embraced to boost production. However, disease is a major limiting factor, in particular ‘secadera’ (wilting), and pathogens causing root, crown and fruit rots. An overview of the results of disease research conducted in these areas over the last 25 years is presented.
