Abstract:
Sclerotinia stem rot is a serious disease resulting in a great economic loss in oilseed rape in China and improvement of resistance is a main objective of oilseed rape breeding.
In our previous work, a functional DNA fragment A9Ss was isolated from a Pseudomonas alcaligene strain A9 which showed a high inhibition activity on S. sclerotiorum. In this study, the A9Ss was introduced into oilseed rape using Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated approach to improve resistance to the pathogen.
Transgenic plants were confirmed with PCR method for target DNA A9Ss and reporter gene nptII. The evaluation of transgenic oilseed rape lines in both the detached leaf inoculation test and the field identification showed that resistance in transgenic plants was significantly enhanced in comparison with non-transgenic plants.
