Abstract:
The effect of several factors on walnut blight incidence and severity have been studied.
These factors included plant material, with eight Californian varieties (‘Amigo’, ‘Chandler’, ‘Chico’, ‘Hartley’, ‘Howard’, ‘Sundland’, ‘Tehama’ and ‘Vina’) and two rootstocks (Juglans hindsii and Paradox), spatial orientation of trees, location in the canopy, and presence of aphis (Cromaphis juglandicola).
Walnut cultivars showed a different rate of susceptibility to the disease, but the two rootstocks studied did not show significant differences on fruit or leaf lesions.
The spatial orientation of the trees did not affect the incidence of the disease on fruits, but disease incidence varied in the different areas of the canopy.
The presence of aphis did not increase the percentage affected fruits, but it favored a higher incidence of the disease on leaves.
