Abstract:
Carpological, biological and agronomical data of 69 walnut accessions in a collection set up in Pignataro Maggiore, district of Caserta (Italy), are reported.
Californian accessions resulted being the most early ones, the Spanish were middle-early, Italian and Greek were intermediate, the French accessions were late.
Fruit ripening of all accessions took about 30 days.
All accessions were protandrous, except two that resulted protogynous.
Most of accessions showed light symptoms of anthracnose, others were severely attacked by bacterial blight.
Early accessions showed medium-high susceptibility to both pathogens.
Lateral bearing type was mostly frequent in USA accessions, terminal in Italian and French accessions.
Nut size showed a range of variability medium-large for most accessions of California and France.
Most of the Italian accessions were medium-small.
Kernel yields showed some variability non related to accessions origin
