Abstract:
The performance of three seed sources of Juglans regia, three seed sources of Juglans nigra and four Juglans commercial hybrids (NG23xRA, NG38xRA, NGMB3xHD and MJ209xRA) at two planting sites in Galicia (Spain). The performance was monitored during eight consecutive years, starting in 1996, is here described.
The following traits were evaluated: vigor (height and diameter increment), growth habit (apical dominance, stem form and number of branches) and phenology (bud burst and leaf fall). Highly significant differences between sites were found for vigor, bud burst and number of branches.
Highly significant differences were found among taxa for vigor, bud burst, number of branches and stem form. Juglans commercial hybrids were the most vigorous taxon, while J.nigra was the less vigorous one.
Significant differences (p<0.001) were found among seed sources within taxa for vigor.
For Gondomar data, site where walnut had better growth, no significant differences were found among taxa for vigor, while for Cartelos data, highly significant differences were found among taxa for this trait.
