Abstract:
Sequencing of the genome of Erwinia amylovora is underway.
Through a collaborative arrangement among three institutions, the genome of strain Ea273 of the fire blight pathogen is being determined.
Following shotgun sequencing procedures to provide 8- to 10-fold coverage, the basic sequence will be finished, closed and basically annotated using Sanger’s in-house Artemis Comparison Tool.
The University of Wisconsin ASAP program will be used to facilitate community annotation by fire blight and erwiniae experts.
A web site devoted to all aspects of fire blight and its pathogen will be developed to include information and links relevant to diagnostic, control and other practical aspects of the disease, as well as genomic information.
