Abstract:
The extensive and increasing damage by Gnomonia erythrostoma (Pers. ex Fr.) Auersw. on apricot led to a study of the sensitivity to this disease during 1997-2000. Frequency, intensity and fungus damage level were examined on 35 apricot varieties and hybrids, and the effect of fungicides was tested for control in the field trials.
The studied varieties and hybrids showed different degrees of gnomoniosis, and the disease was present in all of them.
Only ‘Tchehya’, ‘Stark Early Orange’, ‘Yunskii’, ‘Yantarnii’, ‘Modesto’ and ‘Umberto’ were slightly more susceptible, and the degree of infestation on leaves was 22%. In order to prevent and control the disease, triasole, tebuconasole, bitertanol, iprodione, thiophanate methyl, and benomyl may be used when leaves appear in the spring.
Zineb, mancozeb, dodine, or dithianon also are effective.
Destruction of fallen leaves in autumn helps to reduce the level of inoculum.
