Authors:   P. Gaidanov, V. Cociu
Keywords:   Prunus armeniaca, agronomic behaviour, adaptation
Abstract:
The paper presents the ecological adaptation capacity of ten new apricot cultivars in a steppe zone with only 440 mm mean annual precipitation (without irrigation) and variations of temperature up to 40oC (night) and 60oC (mid-day) in summer and often reaching -34oC in winter. The response of trees was evaluated taking into account the yield for four years and the number of dead trees in this period. The best response was obtained with the cultivars: ‘Litoral’, ‘Olimp’, ‘Sulina’, ‘Red of Baneasa’ and ‘Favorit’ (average yields between 12,2 and 20 t/ha). The conclusion in that growing the new apricot assortment is possible and efficient in the Baragan steppe.
