Abstract:
Apricot production extends from the north to the south of Tunisia with many cultivars adapted to different local microclimates.
This large extension of apricot is associated with an important genetic diversity, which is threatened to erosion.
Through the project of identification, characterization and preservation of apricot genetic resources in the Mediterranean region, the identification and description of local apricot cultivars were performed during 1999-2000 in three areas: Testour, Ras Jbel in the north and Kairouan in the center.
29 local apricot cultivars have been identified.
Each cultivar has been described according to the UPOV guidelines applied for distinctness, homogeneity and stability investigations and based on fruits, leaves, flowers, and trees traits.
Additional characteristics such as blooming period, ripening time as well as technologic aspects and organoleptic factors were measured.
The main characters of each cultivar especially fruit’s ones are presented.
