Abstract:
Among fruit and vegetable purchases of French households, apricots hold 11th position in terms of volume and 8th in terms of expenditure.
Compared to other summer-fruit, they rank behind peaches and nectarines and table grapes, both in volume and expenditure.
Apricot purchases fluctuate from one year to another, depending on how much fruit is on the market, which makes comparisons difficult.
Although apricots are losing buyers, their fans still consume as much as they did before, even increasing their spending on this fruit.
Apricots enjoy an excellent image and are appreciated for their aroma and sweetness.
However, in a survey, apricot quality was considered 'moderately' satisfactory by a majority of persons interviewed, who were even more critical as to ripeness.
On the other hand, the summer holidays offer a favourable context for fruit consumption, of which apricot is the first to benefit.
Its quality during the holidays is perceived as more satisfactory than at home.
