Abstract:
The use of double glazings as a cover for glasshouses and horticultural shelters sets the problem of the estimate of the additional loss of light caused by this type of material if compared to a simple wall.
This problem has already been approached several times (namely STICKLER - 1974) but the results are difficult to compare since the conditions of work have always been different.
Technical cards of the main materials used as glasshouses cover should be established after :
- the practically most interesting photometric properties have been chosen and
- measurement and calculation methods have been defined precisely so as to enable their determination.
Besides, it has been suggested to use these "technical cards" internationally to reach a possible standardization ; indeed, such standardization would simplify greatly the exchange of data between the specialists of different countries as well as the practical use of the materials presently used (glass or plastics) under various conditions.
