ISHS Acta Horticulturae 70: Technical and Physical Aspects of Energy Saving in Greenhouses

HEAT TRANSFER MEASUREMENTS IN SCREENED GREENHOUSES

Author:   J.A. Stoffers
Abstract:
Simultaneously with research projects of the experimental stations in Aalsmeer and Naaldwijk, where - in addition to the horticultural aspects - the energy consumption of screened greenhouses was measured under practical conditions during a whole season, the IMAG started a purely technical project in two greenhouse compartments: one with a screen installed, both without plants.

In order to determine the coefficients of heat transfer for the pipes, the screen, the glass-surface, the bottom and the openings of the screen, these two compartments have been fitted with a technical equipment for measuring temperatures, air humidity, the total heatflux of the pipes, wind velocity and long wave radiation to the sky. Free convection laws are used for the description of these coefficients of heat transfer.
